Vision and Mission
Vision
Enhance the quality of life of the people of Rourkela especially its slum residents.

Mission
1. Form self help groups among women, widows, youth, waste pickers, rickshaw pullers,
and former leprosy patients living in the slums.
2. Improve health and hygiene through promotion of community health and hospital services for slum residents.
3. Provide free home based palliative care services to all residents of Rourkela.
4. Provide quality medical care to all through CWS Hospital, Jagda, Rourkela.
5. Create facilities and enabling environment for formal education of slum children.
6. Promote skill development among slum youth for gainful employment.
7. Organize seminars, meetings and training programmes on social issues and their amelioration among people living in the slums.
Who We Are
Community Welfare Society is a registered charitable organization working for the development of economically, socially and educationally poor sections of the society through participatory activities. It has been working in and around Rourkela since 1976. Its members consist of priests, nuns, doctors, engineers, administrators, educationist and social workers. The Society, over the years, has been able to motivate individuals and communities transcending barriers of caste, religion and gender to work towards the common goal of community development.

CWS Hospital
CWS Hospital with 120 beds at present is the most ambitious and visible project of the CWS healthcare programme. The hospital started providing advanced healthcare services through the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) with 12 beds. CWS Hospital was established at Jagda, Rourkela in 2002.

Like the municipal waste collectors, who are employed by the municipality, informal waste pickers too do a great service to the society. But their contribution to health and environment is hardly acknowledged and are often treated as a public nuisance and sometimes regarded as thieves. They collect waste materials thrown out by households and from public waste dumps.

Our interactions with children attending regular schooling reveal that many of them are not able to acquire the skills in reading, writing and basic mathematical calculations even after five to six years of schooling. Hence to facilitate the process of acquiring these basic skills in learning we have started tuition programme for children who are attending schools.

International Widows’ Day was celebrated by COMMUNITY WELFARE SOCIETY at Subhas Chandra Bose Fitness Park Udit Nagar on 23rd June 2022. The theme of the day was- “Invisible Women Invisible Problems”. Our program began at 10 am.182 widows gathered from four centres namely Sector-2, Gopabandhupalli, Sector-6, and Shitalpara.
